The Super Eagles' coaching vacancy remains a focal point of discussion within Nigeria's football community.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finalists have been without a manager since José Peseiro left his role at the end of February.

Numerous managers have been linked with the vacant coaching role for the West African nation. Among these reports, a recent one has emerged suggesting a possible return for Peseiro to his former position with the Nigerian team.

Nonetheless, amid these swirling reports, the Portuguese manager has spoken out to address the speculation surrounding his potential return as the coach of the Super Eagles.

Peseiro speaks on retuning as Nigeria’s coach

According to a report from Soccernet, the 63-year-old coach has dismissed rumours of a potential return to coaching Nigeria.

The former Sporting CP boss emphasised that he has not been in contact with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) or the country's sports minister, John Enoh, contrary to circulating reports.

The former FC Porto coach added that he is currently enjoying his holiday and spending time with his family. He is also focused on following the remaining fixtures of his former club, Real Madrid.

Peseiro initially announced his departure from the role of Super Eagles coach after failing to reach a new contract agreement with the football federation. He had initially sought a salary in the region of $120,000, but the NFF was not willing to extend their offer beyond $80,000.

With Peseiro's clarification, the list of potential candidates for the role is further narrowed down. Regardless of who is appointed as the coach of the Nigerian team, reports suggest that the NFF aims to make an announcement before the end of April.
