The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appear determined to conclude their search for the ideal coach for the Super Eagles, with interviews set to begin shortly for interested candidates.

A multitude of top-tier coaches have reportedly thrown their hats into the ring for the vacant Super Eagles position, with reports indicating the NFF has received over 115 applications.

Following a thorough screening of these applications by the Federation's technical committee, OwnGoalNigeria reports that the race to find a suitable replacement for former coach, Jose Peseiro, has narrowed down to two foreign managers: Portuguese coach, Antonio Conceicao, and former assistant to Pep Guardiola, Domenec Torrent.

However, the report indicates that Torrent is the frontrunner to secure the position as Nigeria's next coach.

Torrent to be named Super Eagles coach?

The 61-year-old, who boasts a robust CV from managing club sides across Europe and South America, is reported to be the favourite of the pair.

The report also highlights that members of the NFF technical committee believe his wealth of experience, having worked closely with Guardiola for over 11 years, counts as an additional advantage for him to land the Super Eagles role.

The report concludes by stressing the fact that the former Manchester City assistant coach has been paying keen attention to the Super Eagles' run of fixtures and closely monitored the games against Ghana and Mali, as well as continuing to devise plans on how to ensure Nigeria secures victories in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series slated for June.

It is worth noting that Torrent's push to be named Nigeria's coach is supported by the subtle endorsement his application received from Guardiola recently.
