Sunshine Stars player, Sadeeq Yusuf says he is excited to see his club retain its Nigeria Professional Football League status for another season.

The Akure based team experienced their worst ever campaign in the top division, spending majority of the season in the drop zone.

The team was faced with several challenges in the 2020-2021 campaign, including financial difficulties, which led to the resignation of former boss Gbenga Ogunbote halfway through the season, reports Brila.net.

Sunshine Stars, however, put the troubles behind and fought their way to survival with Sadeeq Yusuf contributing 13 goals.

Reflecting on the difficult season, Sadeeq Yusuf told brila.net, he’s glad they rescue the club from going down to second division at the end.

“We were confident at doing what we needed to do, we knew we’re in a battle, we’re not arrogant to think we have a divine right to survive but we do think we have the quality and the nous to do so.

“It was a difficult difficult season that started well, but I’m happy we rescue the club from a disaster (relegation).”

“Personally, I’m happy with my contributions to the team and I thanks all the coaches and my teammates for believing in me,” he told Brila.net.
