Spalletti reveals why Osimhen was subbed off against Roma

Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti has explained why he substituted Victor Osimhen during their clash against Roma on Sunday, January 29.

Osimhen was taken off by the Italian manager in the 76th minute after firing his side into the lead from a spectacular strike in the 17th minute.

The 24-year-old was on the receiving end of a poor tackle in the second half prior to his substitution, fuelling suspicions of a possible injury but it appears the ex-Inter Milan manager substituted the Super Eagles striker for technical reasons.

“You can’t always play the same guys and forget what you saw during the week from the others,

“We have to take into account what everyone does, how eager they all are to show what they can do. Otherwise, we are not complete coaches.

“At the start of the season when Osimhen was injured, Raspadori and Simeone allowed us to win the Champions League group, so it is not fair to just discard them now.” He said.

Osimhen's superb strike against Roma was his 14th Serie A goal of the season - equalling his personal best the previous season.
