Southampton boss Nathan Jones has expressed optimism following the signing of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu.

The 28-year-old secured a move to the St Mary's on transfer deadline day signing three-and-a-half-year deal with the Saints.

Onuachu left Genk as the top scorer in the Belgium Jupiler League having scored 14 goals in the division.

The gangling striker also netted a total of 85 goals in 134 appearances since joining the club from FC Midtjylland in 2019.

After securing the services of the Super Eagles striker, Southampton manager Nathan Jones described Onuachu's signing as significant for club taking into consideration his experience.

“Paul is a significant signing for us and completes what has been an extremely positive month in terms of recruitment.

“He’s a handful to play against, has got a tremendous record throughout his career and he’s also someone who brings great experience with him, so he’ll be a really positive addition to the squad,” he concluded.

Onuachu will team up with his fellow countryman Joe Aribo who joined the Saints in the summer.
