Manchester City have been confirmed as Premier League champions after newcomers Nottingham Forest beat Arsenal 1-0 at the City Ground.

The Gunners put up a lacklustre display against a team fighting hard to secure their top-flight status for next season and were duly punished for it.

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi scored the game’s only goal in the first half, and Forest held on to it to ensure safety from a drop and will again play Premier League football next season.

The result means Arsenal, who are four points behind, can no longer catch City and Pep Guardiola’s men have won their fifth league title in six years.

City players watched the Saturday game hoping that the Gunners would not win, perhaps with confidence that they would not win, and Mikel Arteta’s men did not disappoint.

As made out from a video published on Manchester City’s official Twitter, the players can be seen jumping in elation at the blast of the final whistle by Anthony Taylor at the City Ground.

The players celebrated it like it was their first title, even though it is for some of them, as fans on social media claimed they watched the game knowing Arsenal would bottle it.

According to William Hill, it is the fifth title for 10 stars in the squad, including Ederson, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and youngster Phil Foden.

According to Tribuna, Chelsea will give a guard of honour to City at the Etihad Stadium ahead of their game today. Caretaker manager Frank Lampard confirmed ahead of the matchday that his team will do it.
