Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler Crown Prince bin Salman has declared Wednesday, November 23 as a public holiday following the country's historic win against South American champions Argentina in their World Cup opening game.

labelled as the dark horses, the Arabian side tutored by French tactician Hervé Renard shocked the world by coming from a goal down to beat Lionel Messi-captained Argentina side by 2-1.

Saudi Arabia's shocking victory halted Argentina's 36-game unbeaten run dating back to three years.

PSG star Lionel Messi gave the South Americans the lead early in the 10th minute from the spot.

The Albiceleste later had three goals ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Hervé Renard's side came into the second half strongly to overturn the score courtesy of goals from Al-shehri and Al Dawsari.

Argentina, who have been taunted by many as one of the tournament's favourites will have it all to do in their remaining Group C matches against Poland and Mexico.
