Sancho is overpriced, not worth £70m — Ikpeba

Former Super Eagles international Victor Ikpeba has described Manchester United's transfer for Jaden Sancho as a “waste of money”.

Sancho, 22, joined the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021 signing a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

The lad has failed to live up to the hype since completing his big-money move to the Premier League giants and has barely featured under current boss Erik Ten Haag.

Former Nigeria international, Ikpeba, who also featured for Borussia Dortmund from 1999 to 2002 questioned the transfer policy of Manchester United in recent years.

The ex-striker who was capped 31 times for Nigeria believes the English boy is not worth the £70m United paid in 2021 to secure his signature from Signal Iduna.

“The truth is that the transfers of this great club have been bad, they overpay on players,” Ikpeba said.

“Look at this young lad, Jadon Sancho, that came from Borussia Dortmund. Why spend so much on him, about £70m on him – it’s a waste of money.

“He (Sancho) was overpriced for a young player. But what this guy (Erik ten Hag) is doing is good,” He concluded.
