Samuel Kalu: FIFA places ban on English club Watford over the signing of the Nigerian star

English club Watford have been slapped with a transfer ban by FIFA over their failure to pay Nigerian Academy Megamu FC the agreed amount on the signing of former Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu.

Megamu FC who are based in Aba claimed that Watford should have paid them a certain percentage when they signed Samuel Kalu from Bordeaux, but the English side dismissed their request.

The Nigerian Academy with the help of some big chiefs in the NFF dragged the matter to the World's Football Governing Body.

According to the reports on Own goal and Complete Sports, FIFA have given Watford 45 days for them to pay Megamu Academy or face severe consequences.

FIFA's directive to Watford

“In this context, it appears that, despite the Decision, the respondent, Watford FC (the Respondent) has still not complied with its financial obligations towards Megamu Football Academy Club (the Claimant).

“In this regard, we wish to inform the parties that a ban from registering new players
internationally has been implemented by FIFA as of 19 July 2023.

“Moreover, and in accordance with the aforementioned decision, the Football Association (in copy) is requested to immediately implement on the respondent the Club Watford FC, if not done yet, a ban from registering new players at a national level.''
