Sadio Mane ruled out of World Cup

Senegalese international Sadio Mane has been ruled out of the 2022 World Cup according to widespread reports.

The African footballer of the year limped off during Bayern Munich's 6-1 thrashing of Werder Bremen in the German Bundesliga on Tuesday night.

French publication L'Equipe reports that the 30-year-old suffered a tendon injury and was taken off after just 20 minutes of action.

The news comes as a big blow to the African champions who have been pitted in Group A alongside host Qatar, Netherlands, and Ecuador.

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse faces a major headache a few days before announcing his World Cup squad.

Mane joins the likes of Paul Pogba, Rafael Varane, Diogo Jota, Timo Werner, Ronald Araujo among other stars who have been ruled out of the global showpiece which kicks off in the next 11 days.
