Cristiano Ronaldo does not believe Portugal will be able to win the FIFA World Cup, according to a lie detector test conducted on the veteran in collaboration with Binance.

Critics have questioned his status as the greatest of all time due to his failure to clinch a World Cup title, viewing this as the only blemish on his otherwise illustrious career.

Despite sharing the impressive record of scoring at five different World Cups with his long-standing rival, Lionel Messi, Ronaldo's efforts have yielded no tournament silverware.

His most recent outing at the 2022 competition ended in disappointment, with Portugal exiting in the quarter-finals while Messi led Argentina to glory, adding insult to agony, Eurosport reports.

With age working against him, Ronaldo's last opportunity to claim the coveted trophy may come in the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

When asked about Portugal's chances of winning the coveted trophy, the 38-year-old initially responded in the affirmative. However, the polygraph test revealed his answer was not truthful, per Selecao Talk.

"Do you think Portugal will win a World Cup?" the polygraph tester asked.

"Yes," Ronaldo answered before it was determined this was not an honest answer.

Although the test identified Ronaldo was pessimistic about Portugal's World Cup prospects, the veteran provided an impeccable response when asked a curious question.

In the course of his lie detector test with Binance, he was asked if he would swap all five of his treasured UCL medals for a single trophy on football's biggest stage.
