'Ronaldo, Fernandes not a threat to Super Eagles' – Shorunmo

Former Nigeria goalkeeper Ike Shorunmo believes the Super Eagles' defence can contain the threat posed by the Manchester United duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.

The Super Eagles will engage the Selecaos in a high-profile international friendly on Thursday, November 17 at the Estadio sold-out Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.

The Portuguese will come into the game as firm favourites considering the star-studded squad at their disposal.

The two players who are likely to cause the Super Eagles defence problems are Ronaldo and Fernandes, but Shorunmo who won 36 caps for Nigeria from 1992 to 2002 is confident that the Super Eagles defence can tame the two.

“This game will be definitely an exciting game for the Super Eagles considering the fact that they will be playing against a Ronaldo-led side,” Shorunmu told Complete Sports.

“I really don’t think the duo of Ronaldo and Fernandes will be a threat to the Super Eagles because we have players who are capable of keeping them quiet.”

The game will serve as a warm-up fixture for the World Cup-bound Portuguese side.

The 2016 Euros winners will begin their campaign against the Black Stars of Ghana on November 24.
