Ronaldinho didn't know it was a fake passport - Lawyer

Ronaldinho's lawyer, Sergio Queiroz, has claimed that the former Barcelona star was not aware he was holding a fake passport.

The Brazillian legend was arrested alongside his brother on Wednesday after investigators raided their room and seized the brothers’ identity cards and travel documents which were deemed fake.

Brazillian authorities had withdrawn the former Barcelona star and his brother's passports in November 2018 for failing to pay a $2.3 million fine for environmental damage incurred during the building of a property in the Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil.

"Ronaldinho did not commit a crime because he did not know that the passport they gave him was faked,” he said.

Queiroz said that prosecutors had agreed that the footballer had acted in good faith and the decision by a judge to order their detention was unwarranted.

Ronaldinho said the passports had been given him by people who had invited him to attend conferences sponsored by charities working with disadvantaged children.
