Rivers United striker Nyima Nwangua has assured fans that the team remains focused in their bid to win the CAF Confederations Cup following their impressive campaign so far.

The pride of Rivers have staged an impressive comeback following their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Congolese side CSM Diables Noirs in their group opener.

Stanley Eguma's side got their campaign back on track with a remarkable 3-0 victory over Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on February 19.

The Nigeria Professional Football League champions maintained their winning momentum after recording a 1-0 victory over Congolese side Motema Pembe in their third group game despite playing with 10 men.

Rivers United currently sit at the top of Group B with 6 points heading into their return fixture against the Congolese side in Port Harcourt on March 8.

Nyima Nwangua, 29, says his side remains focused as they approach the remaining games one at a time.

“We take each game as they come; we have focus and we don’t want to be distracted. Yeah, everybody will tell you that they want to win the tournament, but I am actually telling you that we want to win each game we play and that is our focus; it’s our determination,” Nwangua said as per The PUNCH.

“We were determined to win (against Motema Pembe), so, we kept to our game plan. We didn’t allow the red card to change our plans. We talked to ourselves and decided to manage the game properly and at the end of the day we got it right.”

Rivers United will maintain their lead at the top of Group B with a home win against Motema Pembe.
