After a string of disappointing results, which included four losses in their last five matches, the German National team has made the decision to part ways with their head coach, Hansi Flick.

Under Flick's leadership, Germany experienced an unprecedented decline, with notable disappointments such as a shocking round of 16 exit at Euro 2020 against England and a repeat group stage exit at the World Cup in Qatar.

Die Mannschaft, who are slated to host the 2024 edition of the European Championship, have struggled to reverse their decline, and a five-game winless streak for Hansi Flick's team ultimately led to the manager's sacking.

With the Euro just nine months away, the German national team is now in a race against time to appoint a new coach who will lead the 1996 champions when the tournament kicks off in Berlin.

According to reports from the German outlet Bild, the name of former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has emerged as a potential candidate for the position.

Germany to hire Zidane?

The former Real Madrid manager remains out of a job since leaving the Spanish capital in the summer of 2021.

Zidane was reportedly linked with a takeover of the French national team following reports of a potential departure of current coach Didier Deschamps.

However, with the takeover failing to materialise, Zidane could now be in line to take over affairs at the German national team.

The former midfielder is no stranger to fixing unpleasant situations, given that both his appointments at Real Madrid came during spiralling declines experienced by the club.

Though it may appear complicated, a swoop for the 51-year-old cannot be completely ruled out, as reported by Madrid Universal.
