Real Madrid are afraid they could ultimately miss out on the opportunity to seal a deal for Paris Saint-Germain forward, Kylian Mbappe despite being favourites to sign the Frenchman.

The 24-year-old superstar has admitted that he will not renew his deal at Parc des Princes, which expires at the end of the season as he tries to force a move away from the Ligue 1 giants.

According to Sportskeeda, Real Madrid - who have been strongly linked with a move for Mbappe - believe the deal could now be hijacked by English Premier League giants, Chelsea.

Los Blancos are afraid the Blues will be willing to break the bank to sign the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot winner when he becomes a free agent at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Mbappe has reconciled with PSG after initially getting exiled from the first team and has contributed three goals in two Ligue 1 appearances for the French champions since his return.

Mbappe ready to sign new PSG contract

Meanwhile, Mbappe is set to extend his contract with PSG until 2026, reversing his prior position that he wanted to leave the club, GOAL reports.

The prospective contract extension is said to include a one-of-a-kind private release clause for next summer, allowing the attacker to follow his dream of joining Real Madrid.

Los Blancos have been keen on signing Mbappe in the last two summer transfer windows, with PSG believing the France forward has already had a backdoor agreement to join the Spanish club when his contract expires.
