Ghanaian footballer Raphael Dwamena has sadly passed away after collapsing during an Albanian Superliga game between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani.

The 28-year-old collapsed in the 23rd minute of the game and had to be rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

Dwamena has been playing with an Implantable Cardioverter-Defribillator due to a heart problem.

"Rest in Peace to KF Egnatia’s Raphael Dwamena. The Ghanian collapsed on the pitch during the Superliga match between Egnatia and Partizani. He later passed away in the hospital at the age of 28," wrote Albania Footy, confirming the death of the Ghana international.

The lanky forward's first case of a heart condition was when his move to Brighton hit the snag due to failing his medical.

He returned to Austria, where he was playing for Austria Lustenau and later FC Zurich, before earning a big move to Levante in Spain.

However, after different collapse cases, his career saw him move to Albania, where he was handed another lifeline.

He made nine appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana, scoring on his debut for the national team.

"Our thoughts are with the family of Raphael Dwamena at this difficult time. Raphael represented Ghana wholeheartedly and paid his dues to the country until his unfortunate passing. We will forever miss him for his dedication to the National Coarse. Rest In Peace Raphael!," wrote the Ghana Football Association.

He started his career with Red Bull Salzburg before later joining Austria Lustenau. He also played for FC Zurich, Levante, Real Zaragoza, Velje Bodklub, BW Linz, and KF Egnatia.
