Qatar 2022: First win for Africa as Senegal beat Qatar 3-1 in Group A

Africa has recorded her first victory at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup after Senegal beat hosts Qatar 3-1 in Group A.

The African champions bounced back from their opening-game defeat to the Netherlands to beat the host at the Al Thumama Stadium.

Boulaye Dia gave Aliou Cisse's side the lead in the 41st minute before Diedhiou doubled the lead shortly after the restart.

Ghanaian-born Qatari international Mohammed Muntari pulled a goal back for the hosts in the 78th minute before Bamba Dieng restored Senegal's two-goal lead six minutes later.

Qatar have become the first host nation to taste back-to-back defeats in the FIFA World Cup and are on the verge of elimination.

Senegal will come up against Ecuador in their last group game for a place in the knockout stage.
