Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has explained why his side beat Tottenham Hotspurs in the London derby on Monday night.

The Blues handed Spurs their first defeat of the season after beating Ange Postecoglou's side 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium.

A first career hat-trick from Anthony Jackson and Cole Palmer's spot-kick ensured that Kulusevski's 6th-minute opener only counted for a consolation.

Spurs, who came into the game as the Premier League leaders finished the game with nine men as World Cup-winner, Christian Romero and Destiny Udogie were sent off for reckless challenge.

Speaking in a post-match presser, the former PSG boss noted that Chelsea won because they forced Spurs to make mistakes.

“We forced them to make mistakes, but Tottenham was better in the first 15 minutes,” Pochettino said.

“We are still building something; we need time to come against a team full of confidence and to concede after we started the game really badly.

“We were calm afterwards and forced them to make a mistake.”

Spurs have relinquished their position at the top of the table to Manchester City as Chelsea move to 10th on the PL log.
