Player Ratings: Uzoho falls again, Frank Onyeka at best as Super Eagles beat Mozambique 3-2

Super Eagles Super Eagles

The Super Eagles of Nigeria dominated Mozambique with a 3-2 victory, in an international friendly clash at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira.

The win against the Southern Africans provides a significant boost to Nigeria as they prepare for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers, and the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

To address the absence of star players Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho, head coach Jose Peseiro implemented substantial changes to the starting line up in comparison to their previous game against Saudi Arabia.

Soccernet.ng however assess the player ratings for the Super Eagles in this thrilling encounter against the Mambas of Mozambique.

Francis Uzoho: 5/10

Uzoho had a shaky start, being partly responsible for the conceded goal. However, he improved as the game progressed. His reaction could have been quicker for the second goal, but he can’t be entirely blamed.

Bright Osayi-Samuel: 6/10

Osayi-Samuel showcased his skills on the right flank, effectively managing both defensive duties and making marauding overlapping runs.

Bruno Onyemaechi: 6/10

While Onyemaechi should have done better to prevent the cross that led to the opposition’s goal, he displayed solidity throughout the game. However, his foul contributed to Mozambique’s second goal.

Kenneth Omeruo: 7/10

Omeruo delivered a commanding performance, offering crucial cover for Osayi-Samuel’s offensive ventures.

Jordan Torunarigha:

Despite playing his first game for the team, Torunarigha demonstrated an excellent understanding of his role as the left-sided defender. He appeared composed, with rapid recoveries and a willingness to engage in tackles.

Raphael Onyedika: 7/10

Onyedika effectively fulfilled his role in front of the defence, allowing Frank Onyeka the freedom to make frequent forward surges. His performance was stellar, especially considering he represents Club Brugge.

Frank Onyeka: 8/10

Onyeka had his best game in a Super Eagles jersey and was rightfully named the Man of the Match. He scored a well-deserved goal after two noteworthy attempts that were saved.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru: 6/10

Dele-Bashiru demonstrated a solid understanding of his role on the right, keeping things simple. He played a part in Moffi’s equalizer and Onyeka’s second goal. His performance increased his chances of receiving another invitation.

Joe Aribo: 6/10

Aribo displayed resilience in the midfield, putting his body on the line when necessary. While it wasn’t his most elegant performance, it marked a significant improvement from his previous showings.

Moses Simon: 8/10

Simon energized the team with his runs and valuable defensive contributions. He executed his penalty expertly and maintained his characteristic liveliness.

Terem Moffi: 7/10

Moffi exhibited unwavering determination to score and succeeded in doing so. His relentless pressure on Mozambique’s defence suggests a potential return to the squad in November.
