Peter Schmeichel reveals why De Gea made an error against Everton

Peter Schmeichel has reacted to the error made by David De Gea in the 1-1 draw between Manchester United and Everton in the English Premier League.

De Gea failed to clear a back pass past an Everton player, Calvert-Lewin, who blocked the clearance and left the ball at the back of the net.

Manchester United later equalized with a brilliant effort from Bruno Fernandes to end the game in a draw.

Schmeichel who once manned the goalpost for Manchester United blamed the error on lack of concentration on De Gea's part.

“I think De Gea believes he has more time. He does have options,” Schmeichel told Premier League Productions.

“He should just pass it back to Harry Maguire, and you start again. You could give it to Victor Lindelof there, and Nemanja Matic is always available.

“He doesn’t realize how close [Calvert-Lewin] gets – it’s a lack of concentration.

“For top clubs, the way to win the championships is not to give anything away easily – you don’t do that.

“In seven games, seven mistakes have led to the loss of points, that’s far too many.

“That’s too much for a top club, and that’s something that David de Gea needs to get out of his game. He needs better concentration.”
