Super Eagles Head Coach Jose Peseiro has defended striker Victor Osimhen, following recent attacks from the fans and media.

Osimhen’s commitment to the national team was questioned after pulling out of the friendly game against Portugal.

The striker was initially included in the squad to face Portugal, and the Forward had turned out for Napoli against Udinese on Sunday.

But Napoli announced the striker won’t take part in the game after he withdrew from the team due to injury.

In a short video interview on NFF TV, the Portuguese gaffer confirmed that Napoli have reached out to the NFF about the striker’s fitness.

“Doctors from Napoli spoke to our doctor that Osimhen is not fit even in the last club game he felt pains in the back.

“They sent in a report and are with our doctor they said he will need between 10-15 days to fully recover.

“Of course, I would like to play him but there is nothing I can do, I always like to play the best,” Peseiro said.

Osimhen has not played for the Super Eagles, since scoring four goals in the African Cup Nations qualifiers against Sao Tome and Principe.
