European big guns – Paris Saint Germain, Arsenal FC and others have joined the world to celebrate with Nigeria on her 60th Independence Day anniversary.

Nigerians are passionate football lovers and have been represented at these clubs and others across Europe by players like Austin J.J Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, amongst others.

English side Arsenal celebrate the anniversary with a video of Kanu‘s hat-trick against Chelsea. The former Nigeria international joined the Gunners in 1999 from Inter Milan.

Kanu went on to become a household name at the club with 119 appearances and 30 goals before departing the club in 2004. He also scored some memorable goals for the club including his hattrick against bitter rivals Chelsea.

He won two Premier League trophies in 2001–02 and 2003–04 season, two FA Cup (2001–02, 2002–03), and an FA Charity Shield in 1999. Kanu was also part of the Arsenal team that finished as runner-up in the 1999–2000 UEFA Cup Competition.

“Chei! Naija celebrates 60 years of independence today! Sending you all our best wishes, Nigerian Gooners We’ll be celebrating with this @papilokanu hat-trick,” Arsenal tweeted.

Nigeria was ably represented at PSG by legend J.J Okocha who joined the French giants in 1998 and departed on 2002 scoring 12 goals in 84 appearances for the club.

Another Super Eagles legend, Sunday Oliseh, starred for Borussia Dortmund from 2000 to 2004 and bagged 53 appearances for the Black and Yellows as a defender. He won the Bundesliga trophy in 2001–02.

AS Roma also celebrated Nigeria with a video collage featuring MaxFM 102.3FM and TVC presenter Mark ‘Dsoulja Otabor’s memorable commentary on Roma’s astonishing comeback victory against Barcelona in the 2018 Champions League quarter-finals.

However, Nigeria continues to produce fine talents across the world with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Henry Onyekuru, Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and so on.

In recognition of the great exploits of these wonderful Nigerian players (old and new) and fans, the football clubs, wish Nigerians a happy independence celebration.
