Premier League stars could return to the pitch sooner than expected after reports revealed that the PL chiefs are holding crucial talks with the government.

The Premier League has been on hold since mid-March due to the massive effects of the coronavirus with the management considering the health implications on players, staff and fans.

The Sun reports that the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary Oliver Dowden told the House of Commons that he is speaking with PL chiefs about a plan to bring football back to the public sooner than expected.

He said: “I personally have been in talks with the Premier League with a view to getting football up and running as soon as possible in order to support the whole football community.”

The United Kingdom has recorded a total of 153,000 confirmed cases with over 20,000 deaths.

As it stands runaway league leaders, Liverpool, are on 82 points from 29 games and Manchester City, in second, are on 57 from 28 games. Third-placed Leicester City have amassed 53 points in 29 games.

Chelsea and Manchester United lie fourth and fifth with 48 and 45 points respectively out of 29 matches.

Fifth and sixth-place Wolves, Sheffield Utd have both recorded 43 points in 29 and 28 games respectively, while Tottenham and Arsenal are in eighth and ninth place with 41 and 49 points in 29 and 28 games respectively.
