Osimhen nominated for Ballon d'Or

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has been shortlisted for this year's Ballon d'Or award.

The Napoli Starman has become the first Nigerian international to be nominated for the award since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999.

The 24-year-old will compete with the likes of Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric, Vinicius Junior, Bukayo Saka, and Rodri among others for the coveted football prize.

Osimhen had a remarkable season last term, helping Napoli to their first Scudetto title in 33 years.

The Super Eagles star netted 26 Serie A goals to win the Capocannoniere award, becoming the first African star to do so.

He also became Africa's all-time top scorer in Serie A, surpassing the previous record which was held by George Weah.

Osimhen managed 31 goals for the Serie A champions across all competitions.
