The Super Eagles' shambolic performance against Guinea-Bissau in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers has set tongues wagging on social media.

Eric Chelle's side were stunned 3-0 in their second qualifier encounter against Guinea-Bissau at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau.

Franculino Djú gave the Djurtus the lead on the quarter-hour mark to ensure that the home side went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead.

Mama Baldé scored after the break to give the home side a two-goal cushion before Álvaro Djaló sealed the win in stoppage time.

The defeat was Eric Chelle's first since taking over the reins of the team in January 2025, and Guinea-Bissau's second-ever win over Nigeria in AFCON qualifying history, following their famous upset in Abuja in 2023.

Some football-loving fans of Nigeria have taken to social media to register their displeasure following the team's performance.

An X user @emede_villa said, "Osimhen energy is what has been covering our shame in the Super Eagles, they can't even head one on one ball into Guinea Bissau goal on two occasions. Why was Fredrick, George in the starting line up? Attitude was lackadaisical, nonchalant? The next thing is permutations etc..."

Another user @Sirvhinsenta wrote, "Overhyped names. Average performances. Little sense of pride in what they claim to love. Have some shame."

@temmyolayinka5 stated, "Worst match the Super Eagles have played under Eric Chelle. How do you concede three goals without making a serious attempt to save any? Nwabali showed zero reflexes...just watched all three go into the net. Absolutely terrible."

Guinea-Bissau have now taken a commanding lead in Group L with 6 points, with Nigeria in second place on three points.

With only one automatic qualification spot left up for grabs beyond co-hosts Tanzania, the pressure is mounting on the Super Eagles ahead of their remaining fixtures.
