Kylian Mbappe has sent shockwaves through the footballing world after telling Paris Saint-Germain he won't be extending his contract.

The 24-year-old signed a new three-year deal just last summer - but the final 12 months were only optional.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, the 2018 World Cup winner sent a formal letter to Paris Saint-Germain on Monday afternoon.

In this letter, Mbappe reportedly informed the Parisians that he will not, under any circumstances, be activating the option in his contract for a further year until 2025.

Finding a player who can replicate Mbappe's 28 goals and 6 assists in Ligue 1 in the 2022/23 season is a tall order, but PSG should not be short of options when it comes to picking out a ready-made replacement.

Here, Sports Brief takes a look at five players who could replace Mbappe at the Parc des Princes this summer.

Mohamed Salah

Could Mohamed Salah decide to quit Liverpool and join PSG as Kylian Mbappe's replacement a year after inking a lucrative contract? At Anfield, the Egyptian King reportedly earns about £350,000 each week.

Salah has scored 26 goals and provided 11 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool so far this term. There is no doubting his quality, but he will turn 31 this summer.

The Merseysiders reportedly value him at €80 million, which could prove to be a major stumbling block for PSG.

Kolo Muani

One of the most sought-after forwards in the world right now is Kolo Muani. Paris Saint-Germain is particularly interested in signing the Frankfurt winger this summer, according to Caught Offside.

PSG’s Qatari owners admire Muani’s profile, having been left impressed by his performances in the 2022 World Cup.

He made a significant impact after scoring the winning goal for France in the semi-finals, followed by a good display in the final.

Despite Frankfurt's struggles, Muani carried on his excellent form after the World Cup, racking up 13 goals and ten assists in Bundesliga this season.

PSG will face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle, though.

Victor Osimhen

Victor Osimhen has been one of Europe's stars of the 2022-23 season. He has burgeoned into a well-rounded centre-forward this term and has been in scintillating form for Napoli.

The Nigeria international's prolific goalscoring form was enough to hand Napoli their first Serie A title in 30 years.

Napoli are not keen to let their star player leave either and only a bid of €150 million will bring them to the negotiating table, according to AS.

He would be a like-for-like replacement for Mbappe and a great long-term signing for PSG.

Harry Kane

Kane could be a potential candidate to fill the void that Mbappe's departure could open up at PSG.

Kane has proven himself to be one of the world's best strikers, with a consistent track record of scoring domestic and international goals.

His excellent vision, precision in front of goal, and ability to link up with teammates could make him a natural fit for PSG's style of play.

Le Parisien says Kane is PSG's top transfer target this summer.

PSG would have to fork out £88 million price tag to secure his signature from Spurs, Sky Sports reported.

Serge Gnabry

Recent reports have suggested that Serge Gnabry's future at Bayern Munich might not be secure. The Bavarians extended Gnabry's contract until 2026 last summer, but since signing the bumper deal, the German winger has not exactly stepped up to the level Bayern would have wanted him to.

But with his incredible performance in the just-ended Bundesliga season, Gnabry remains a credible threat. As a right-footed right-winger, he can add a fresh sense of dynamism to PSG's attacking setup if he does end up going there.
