Former Super Eagles star, John Ogu has sent an apparent warning to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) about the upcoming 2023 African Footballer of the Year Awards.

Nigerians continue to plead Victor Osimhen's case concerning who should win the award among the nominees.

The Super Eagles striker was one of the 30 nominees for the 2023 Africa Player of the Year award alongside the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Riyad Mahrez.

Former Super Eagles midfielder, Ogu took to X (formerly Twitter) to send a message to the organisers of the award, as he believes Osimhen has done enough to win the accolade ahead of other nominees.

"Dear [CAF], I'm sure y’all saw the whole Ballon d'Or setting last night. This is exactly how we want such an award to be delivered and well organised for our star boy [Osimhen] as the best player in Africa. Thank you in advance," he said.

The Nigerian international scored 26 goals for Napoli last season and led them to their first Serie A title in 33 years. He was also the top goal-scorer during the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with 10, according to TransferMarkt.

The annual CAF awards are scheduled for December and will be held in Marrakech, a city in Morocco.
