Paul Onuachu and Joe Aribo suffered another defeat with Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Super Eagles duo were in action as the Saints lost 1-2 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the St Mary’s.

Onuachu was handed his first start for the club since making his move to the club from Genk. The striker however lasted for 74 minutes before being replaced by Che Adams.

Aribo on his part got his chance to impress after coming on for goalscorer Carlos Alcaraz with 14 minutes left to play.

Carlos Alcaraz put the struggling hosts ahead after 24 minutes of play. The visitors pressed for an equaliser and their persistence eventually paid off after 72 minutes when Jan Bednarek bundled the ball inside his own net.

January signing Joao Gomes, however, scored the winner on his debut for Julen Lopetegui’s side. Wolverhampton had Mario Lemina dismissed with a second yellow card for dissent.

The defeat left Southampton four points from safety, while 15th-placed Wolves moved five points clear of the relegation places.
