Onazi to face old club after signing for rivals

Ogenyi Onazi will prepare to face his former club, Trabzonspor after recently signing a deal with rivals, Denizlispor.

Onazi may move into swift action in the Turkish Super Lig fixture between both clubs today.

The former Lazio midfielder, Onazi, 26, did not make his way into the first team after suffering an Achilles injury in December 2018, Punch revealed.

“Our club signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with Nigeria player Ogenyi Onazi, with one-year option,” Denizlispor wrote on their Twitter handle.

Onazi, who helped the Super Eagles win the 2013 Nations Cup and played in all four of his country’s games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, is excited about his latest move in Turkey.

“Last year was a challenging one but year 2020 has started with a blessing,” Onazi told Sports Extra.

“I can’t wait for the first game for my new club. They’ve taken a chance on me and I’m ready to give my all.

“Let’s make the difference. I can’t wait for my first game.”

Trabzonspor on their Twitter handle thanked the Nigerian and wished him well ahead of his new journey.

“We would like to thank Onazi for his contributions to our team and wish him luck and success in his career after Trabzonspor. Get on the road, Ogenyi Onazi!”
