Organizers of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics have said 17 new coronavirus cases have been recorded.

They, however, said no athletes were affected among the latest infections.

Since the games began, the highest daily figure was recorded on Friday, July 30, 2021.

So far, 276 with links to the games have been infected with 24 athletes amongst them.

Meanwhile, Despite the disappointing outing by some of the Nigerian contingents at the Olympics, some others have saved the blushes of the country.

Enoch Adegoke, Nigeria's representative in the 100m sprint became the first Nigerian since 1996 to clock 10.00s in heat 2 of men’s 100m semis breaking the 25-year record of Davidson Ezinwa at Atlanta.

Tobi Amusan, on the other hand, broke a 21-year-old record as she won her first semi-final in 12.62s to become the first Nigerian since Glory Alozie at Sydney 2000 to qualify for the 100m Hurdles final at the Olympics.
