OFFICIAL: NFF declares Super Eagles coaching role vacant, list 4 criteria for candidates

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially declared the Super Eagles coaching role vacant.

This follows the expiration of Jose Peseiro's contract at the end of February.

The Portuguese helped the Super Eagles to the runner-up position at the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations but opted against renewing his contract.

He announced a departure from his role as the head coach saying it was "it had been a great pleasure."

"We concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles."

"It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment."

The Algerian FA is reported to be eyeing Peseiro.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers starting in June, Nigeria is in search of a new manager.

The NFF in a communique listed four requirements prospective applicants must possess.

1. Relevant coaching qualifications.

2. Proven experience at the elite level of football management.

3. A successful track record in leading teams.

4. A knowledge of African football will be an added advantage.
