No regret dumping England for Nigeria — Lookman

Atlanta forward Ademola Lookman insists he has no regret over his decision to pick Nigeria over England.

Lookman, born in South London and played for the young three Lions at youth level, where he also won the FIFA U20 World Cup before his international switch.

He played for Everton, Fulham and Leicester in the Premier League, but joined Atalanta in the Serie A this season.

The Winger has now developed to one of the most effective forwards in European football, scoring twelve goals for Atalanta.

Some fans however believe had he waited, England would have handed him a call-up and become a regular.


While speaking to the Italy news outlet L’Eco di Bergamo, Lookman said he has a strong bond with both countries and has no regret over picking Nigeria.


“I have no regrets,” he responded to the questions about his international switch.

“I took the right decision. This is my career.”

“I want to play for Nigeria and am proud of this. I was born in England, but my family is from Nigeria, and I have a strong bond with both countries,” he said.

The forward completed the switch with FIFA granting his request to play for the Super Eagles on February 10, 2022.

Lookman has made six appearances for the Super Eagles with one goal to his credit.
