No pressure on Boniface ahead of Europa League decider against Leverkusen

Royale Union Saint-Gilloise will trade tackles with Beyer Leverkusen in the deciding leg of their quarter-final encounter this Thursday evening.

The Belgian side hold the advantage, having forced Leverkusen to 1-1 draw in the first-leg, played at the BayArena.

Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface scored the opening goal for Union SG, before Jordan Writz equalized for the German side, with ten minutes left on the clock.

With the second-leg holding at Lotto Park, all eyes will be on Boniface, who his joint top scorer in the competition, and his teammates to finish the job and secure last four place.

Karel Geraerts, the coach of the team says he has confidence in his players to deliver another good performance.

“The players are quite relaxed,” says Geraerts. “They know it’s an important game, but they’re used to playing to win. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is or what the game is.”

Geraerts also insists his side are very relax and not under pressure like some pundits suggested.

​“So, I have to find the right words to channel that. I learned a lot of things. We noticed that we played against a very good team, very modern.

“Leverkusen is still the favourite, but we will play to qualify, but we are relaxed and not under pressure.”
