Following their fairy-tale win against the United States of America, Nigerian fans have backed the Flamingos to go ahead and clinch the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Nigeria made history by defeating the US 4-3 in the shootouts to qualify for the semi-final of the U-17 Women's World Cup for the first time.

Nigeria hit the front in the 27th minute when defender Edafe scored from the spot before the US equalised in the 40th minute courtesy of Amalia Villarreal's deflected shot.

Both teams couldn't score the decider in the second half forcing the game to the shootouts after 90 minutes of regulation time.

Coach Olowookere Bankole's side won 4-3 in the shootouts after the US missed two spot kicks.

Omamuso Edafe, who put the Flamingos ahead converted the final spot kick to cement Nigeria's place in the last four.

Amid the jeering and jubilations, some Nigerians have thrown their weight behind the team to go all the way and clinch the ultimate title as congratulatory messages flood social media.
