Nigerians excited as Black Stars player Atsu is rescued alive from under massive rubble after 26 hours

Nigerians on social media have been reacting to the rescue of Ghanaian international Christian Atsu who was stuck under the rubble of a building he was in when the earthquake struck Turkey.

Atsu who plays for Hatayspor in the Turkish city of Hayat was on the 9th floor of his apartment when the building collapsed.

According to CNN, the former Chelsea and Newcastle winger Atsu was discovered alive and is now in stable condition at the hospital.

The club's manager Mustafa Ozat also confirmed to a local radio station that the player had been rescued with injuries and sent to the hospital, local online portal GhanaWeb reports.

“Christian Atsu was removed injured. Our sporting director, Taner Savut, is unfortunately still under the rubble... We are coming towards the end of the most dangerous hours."

Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, who broke news of Atsu's trapping, tweeted early Tuesday, February 7, 2023, about the rescue: "Christian Atsu has been pulled from the wreckage alive!"

He also confirmed to a Ghanaian journalist that Atsu was doing well before promising to share updates as and when they came in.
