Nigeria legends reportedly nominate Jose Peseiro's replacement

Conversations regarding the ideal candidate to succeed Jose Peseiro have taken centre stage following the expiration of the Portuguese gaffer's contract.

Peseiro, 63, has failed to reach an agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over a possible contract extension despite guiding the Super Eagles to the finals of the recently concluded African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria lost 2-1 to the host in what was their first final since their last triumph in 2013.

Despite reports of ongoing negotiations between both parties over a new deal, OwnGoalNigeria reports that some Super Eagles legends have submitted names of their preferred candidates to occupy the vacant role.

As per reports, Augustine Eguavoen, Sunday Oliseh and Daniel Amokachi have all named Emmanuel Amunike as the right man to take over from Peseiro.

The report added that the Sports Minister, John Enoh agreed to their recommendation and has assured them that he would carefully consider their suggestion.

Amunike won the Nations Cup with the Super Eagles in 1994. He also guided Nigeria's youth team to win the U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2015.
