The conversation surrounding who gets crowned as the next coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria continues to garner reactions from a flurry of interest stakeholders across the country’s footballing circles.

Several fans and enthusiasts have called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to employ a local coach. In contrast, others remain keen on the appointment of a foreign manager following the exploits of former coach, Jose Peseiro.

The 63-year-old, having led the Super Eagles to their best finish at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, opted to depart his role as coach of the Nigerian team at the expiration of his contract.

However, amid the buzz, the conversation surrounding the coaching situation of the Super Eagles continues to generate, a report from OwnGoalNigeria, has disclosed insights from a prominent figure within the NFF, hinting at the possibility of yet another foreign tactician taking charge.

NFF Chief on next Super Eagles coach

According to the report, a high-ranking official from the Federation, speaking anonymously, emphasised that despite the clamour from Nigerian football fans for a homegrown coach to lead the Super Eagles, many local coaches lack the necessary qualifications to take on the role.

The report also highlighted the case of former Nigeria captain, Joseph Yobo, who was appointed assistant coach of the Nigerian team during Gernot Rohr's tenure, despite not holding the required coaching license, which hindered his ability to fulfil his duties effectively.

The report concludes by suggesting that this discrepancy in qualifications is a significant factor in why the NFF may lean towards appointing another foreign manager for the Super Eagles position. Swirling reports from Score Nigeria, have stated that the NFF received applications in excess of 40 from foreign managers interested in the Super Eagles job.
