The conversation surrounding who should assume the vacant role as the next Super Eagles head coach continues to dominate headlines.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is still on the hunt for a competent candidate to succeed Portuguese gaffer José Peseiro two months after the former Sporting Lisbon manager left his role after the African Cup of Nations in February.

Several coaches have reportedly expressed their interest in coaching the AFCON finalists with names like Domenec Torrent, Francisco Conceicao and Emmanuel Amunike rumoured as frontrunners to secure the role.

Earlier reports indicated that the NFF is considering appointing Amunike in response to the demand for a local coach to lead the three-time African champions.

However, recent reports indicate that the NFF is reconsidering its initial decision due to the former Barcelona striker's poor track record in senior management.

The report highlights Amunike's unimpressive coaching record with the Tanzanian national team and as an assistant coach with the Super Eagles.

The announcement of a new head coach is imminent as the NFF looks to appoint a new manager before the World Cup qualifying series in June.
