The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to name Emmanuel Amunike as the next head coach for the Super Eagles, OwnGoalNigeria reports.

Three coaches were recommended by the technical committee of the NFF for consideration after the screening process for applicants.

As per reports, the NFF has come under enormous pressure to set aside the three foreign coaches recommended to the board by the technical committee.

The sudden turn of events leaves Amunike as favourite among the local coaches to secure the vacant role.

The NFF is working around the clock to secure a permanent coach ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifying series in June.

The Super Eagles have been without a permanent coach since the departure of José Peseiro in February.

Despite guiding the team to the final of the AFCON, the Portuguese gaffer left his role after failing to secure an agreement with the NFF over a possible contract extension.
