NFF chief Gusau reveals when VAR will be introduced in Nigeria

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau has vowed to introduce the video assistance referee (VAR) in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

According to the NFF chief, he will ensure that the VAR will feature in the local topflight league before the end of his tenure.

He made the disclosure during the maiden retreat of the management and staff of NPFL in Abuja.

“I can assure you that VAR will be effectively put into use in our domestic football before the end of my first tenure as president of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2026. It will be gradual, but we will surely get there,” Gusau stated.

“I also want to commend the board of the Nigeria Premier Football League for their unrelenting efforts to change the face of the league for the better. the NFF and the League management will continue to introduce programs and innovations that will ensure the growth of the league.”

Gusau is one year into his tenure as NFF boss, he succeeded former president Amaju Pinnick last year.
