NFF announces date as Super Eagles to take on Saudi Arabia in international friendly

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Green Falcons of Saudi Arabia in an international friendly slated for Portugal on October 13.

Fans in Portimao will be treated to a special game as Jose Peseiro will lead the three-time African champions to the city for the fixture.

The encounter comes barely one month after Nigeria thrashed Sao Tome and Principe 6-0 on the final day of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

Saudi Arabia’s Green Falcons, who play Mali’s Eagles at the same venue four days later, have never played against Nigeria at senior level.

Nigeria and Saudi Arabia clashed during the opening match of the FIFA U-20 World Cup (then known as the FIFA World Youth Championship) in 1989, in which second-half goals from Christopher Ohenhen and Mutiu Adepoju steered Nigeria to a comeback 2-1 victory over the host nation in Riyadh, Vanguard reports.

The Estadio Municipal de Portimão in the Algarve is the home ground of Portimonense S.C. and can seat close to 10,000 spectators.
