Moffi makes Ligue 1 team

Nigerian striker, Terem Moffi, has been named in L’Equipe’s Team of The Week after his heroics against champions Paris Saint Germain last Friday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Other players who made the team of the week include goalkeeper, Alexandre Oukidj; defenders Melvin Bard, Daniel Schmidt, Leny Yoro, Lorenz Assignon; midfielders Aleksandr Golovine, Pierre Lees- Melou, Romain Faivre and Remy Cabela.

Moffi, who scored two goals and earned an assist to help Nice to a 3-2 win at Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, which condemned the hosts to their first defeat of the season, was rated nine by prestigious French daily L’Equipe.

The 24-year-old put Nice in front in the 21st minute, after his low strike beat Gianluigi Donnarumma, in goal for the Le Parisens.

The former Lorient player also set up Gaetan Laborde to restore Nice lead after Kylian Mbappe had drawn PSG level just before the half-hour mark, before he hit a fine strike from 18 yards, which sparked wild celebrations among his teammates and the visiting fans.

Moffi, who has now scored three times this season in Ligue 1, wheeled away in delight at the goal, pulling off his shirt and showing his name to the Parisian crowd — a move which angered Mbappe.

The win sees Nice jump above PSG to fourth in the Ligue 1 standings, with PSG enduring a mixed start to the season, winning two, drawing two and now losing one of their opening league matches.

To make matters worse, Moffi has continued to troll Mbappe on his Instagram page, posting several pictures of him celebrating accompanied by a video, with the caption ‘Mr Nobody.’

The Nigerian joined Nice on loan from Lorient in January, scoring six goals in the French topflight last season.

The 6ft1in centre-forward’s impressive performances had caught the eye of suitors across Europe, with West Ham and Bournemouth both enquiring about him in the summer.

West Ham had made a bid of £25m but the striker ultimately remained at Nice, with the French outfit beating both Premier League clubs to make his loan deal permanent.

Meanwhile, former Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh, was full of praises for the strong forward following his impressive display against the French champions.

“Superb world-class stuff from Naija’s own Terem Moffi!” he wrote on his X account.

“Very few strikers in the world today are able to do what Terem does; get the ball, point at a defender, eliminate him by dribbling, and strike at goal!! Furthermore the man strong abeg …Lol.”
