Former Super Eagles midfielder John Mikel Obi has weighed in on the debate surrounding the ideal candidate for the Manchester United managerial role.
Current United head coach Michael Carrick has come under intense pressure following a string of poor results this season.
The Red Devils suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford last weekend, a result that has pushed the club further down the Premier League table to 16th place.
The club have won just two matches this season, with victories coming against Ipswich Town in the Premier League and Sabah in the UEFA Champions League.
The club’s hierarchy are reportedly considering four potential managers who could take over from the club legend.
Reports indicate that former Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe and former Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann are among the leading candidates to succeed Carrick.
Other reports have suggested Aston Villa manager Unai Emery and Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler as potential candidates.
Speaking on his Obi One Podcast, Mikel Obi dismissed the likes of Antonio Conte, Nagelsmann and Howe, backing current Aston Villa boss Emery as the ideal candidate for the job.
“I would go for Unai Emery,” the former Chelsea midfielder said.
