Former Nigerian international John Mikel Obi has disclosed that Chelsea players were left emotionally devasted following the sacking of Jose Mourinho in his first spell.

The Portuguese tactician had established a strong bond with the players winning the Premier League for two consecutive seasons.

The Special One departed in 2007 amid reports of disagreements with club owner Roman Abramovich after three seasons at the club.

“It’s crazy, we all do all that. We all cried and were emotional and that," he said on the Obi One Podcast.

"He left, then five minutes later, we were out on the training pitch and everyone’s laughing and joking. We just had to move on with it. After training, we started talking about it, but on the pitch, we had to get on with it," he added.

Jose later joined Inter and went ahead to win a historic treble with the club in 2010 before joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2010.
