Mikel Obi: Chelsea legend discloses what Nigeria must do to win AFCON 2023

Former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi has disclosed what the Super Eagles of Nigeria need to do to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations next year.

The three-time AFCON champions are one of the favourites to win Africa's biggest football competition in Ivory Coast.

Jose Peseiro's side were drawn in Group A alongside the host nation Ivory Coast, as well as Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.

Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel has claimed the Nigerian national team need more than the ‘Let’s Do It Again’ campaign to win the 34th AFCON edition, according to a report by The Nation.

The former Stoke City midfielder explained what Peseiro's team needed to do to win the competition.

"We have to make sure we beat the big boys because to win this kind of trophy (AFCON Trophy), you have to be ready to play against the big boys; Senegal, Egypt, the Ivory Coast, and Morocco," he said.

"We just have to be ready for these big games because we will eventually face them at some point during the tournament, and we must make sure we are ready for them."

Nigeria will begin their quest in the competition when they face Equatorial Guinea on January 14, before battling the host nation four days later.
