Former Barcelona winger, Malcolm has said that Lionel Messi is not as influential at the club as many think.

Messi, alongside Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez, is believed to be the most vocal in the dressing room.

However, Malcolm who spent only one season with the Spanish Giants before he was sold to Zenit St Petersburg, stated that Messi only holds sway as the captain of the team.

He told Cadena SER: "The dressing room doesn't have that much power.

"Leo doesn't act as president. He speaks only as the captain of the squad."

Malcolm awaits the return of the Spanish La Liga so he can watch his former teammate play again.

He added: "One of the bad things about the confinement is not being able to watch Messi.

"I think he'll play until he's 40."
