Messi finally breaks silence on why he snubbed Barça for Inter Miami

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has finally opened up on why he joined Inter Miami amid keen interest from his darling club FC Barcelona.

The 36-year-old was strongly linked with a return to Spotify Camp Nou after it became evident that his time at Parc de Princes had come to an end following the expiration of his two-year deal with the French champions.

Contrary to the expectations of many fans, the World Cup winner opted for David Beckham's club in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

Speaking in an interview with the Spanish outlet, Mundo Deportivo, Barça president Joan Laporta disclosed that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner wanted to prevent his bad experience at PSG where he played under a lot of pressure.

“The player wanted it, the father wanted it, but the rhythms are different. We didn’t want what happened last time,” Laporta said.

“He told us that he decided to join Inter Miami because he had spent very difficult seasons in Paris, where he was under a lot of pressure, while in Miami he would be calmer and could think about the national team and that, although he wanted to come to Barça, he didn’t want to spend another year like this.”
