Barcelona captain, Lionel Messi has praised all health workers around the world fighting against the deadly coronavirus.

The UNICEF ambassador who donated millions towards the fight against the virus described the health workers as anonymous heroes fighting to keep our families safe.

He shared on Instagram: "Yesterday the World Health Worker Week came to an end and, together with @unicef, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the work they do," Messi wrote via Instagram on Sunday.

"Anonymous heroes who endure long days and nights away from their families, so that ours can be safe from #COVID19.

"For continuing, despite everything, their noble commitment to caring for pregnant women, and keeping children and adolescents protected. #YoMeQuedoEnCasa #StayAtHome #Unicef."

Messi and his Barcelona teammates have taken pay-cut to enable the club to survive the pandemic period.
