Mbappe named France captain

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe has been named captain of the French football national team following the retirement of Hugo Lloris.

The Tottenham Hotspurs number one announced his retirement from the national team in January following their World Cup final defeat to Argentina a month earlier.

Lloris, 36, has been the skipper of Les Bleus for last ten years.

According to reports, Mbappe, 24, held talks with France coach Didier Deschamps and has accepted the captaincy role.

Athletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has also been named as deputy captain.

Mbappe will captain the French side for the first time against the Netherlands at Stade de France on Friday, March 24 in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Mbappe has scored 36 goals in 66 caps for the French national team.

He was also the top scorer at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after notching an astonishing 8 goals including a hat-trick in the final.
